A few weeks ago I was given a blunt reminder on how important it is to make the most of your life and prioritise your health.
At the end of February I lost a good friend who was taken way too soon.
It only seems like yesterday that we were living in a little house in Wagga while we were studying ag science at university. One part of me wishes we had more pictures of the silly things we got up to, but another part is glad we don’t.
He was one of the most intelligent and quick-witted people I know. Not only always quick to offer advice and help but also led from the front in anything he did. As such it was no surprise that he went on to become a successful barrister.
However, if driving trucks and tractors paid anywhere near as well as being a barrister, I doubt he would have become a barrister.
He always had a keen interest in politics but never pursued it. I think he was too honest for politics.
He was a loving and proud father.
He was someone that was always up for a chat and I miss his daily messages with a new video of Australian nostalgia or something else that made me laugh.
But among all that, he was also someone that for the last 40 years has not changed. The thing I most admired about him was he has really been acting like a 22-year-old for the last 40 years.

It didn’t matter where or when any gathering was taking place, you could always count on him being the first to commit to going to it. And yes, he would always be the life of the party while he was there.
You could say he gave everything he had to every area of his life. No regrets.
Sadly though, the one area of his life he probably didn’t take excellent care of was his health, and it finally and suddenly caught up with him.
He will be missed by all that knew him.
What’s this got to do with financial advice? While I help clients build their wealth, I also encourage everyone to live their life to the fullest. I would prefer people look back in 2035 and be proud of not only the financial gains they have made but also the fun things they have done along the way.
Don’t put off planning for the future, but at the same time don’t put off having fun until later. Do it now.
I also encourage everyone – me included – to take the best possible care of themselves. All the money in the world is meaningless if you don’t keep your body and mind healthy.
We specialise in helping professionals and executives grow and protect their wealth so they can live their ideal life.
